System Smoke Detector
The system smoke detector is designed to be used with a building fire alarm system. Unlike the single station detector which is designed for use in individual residence or sleeping quarters. The system detector is used to detect smoke in common areas such as theaters, hotel lobbies and hallways.
System smoke detectors are manufactured in Ion or Photo Electric models and 12 or 24 Volt DC. The 12 VDC model is used in conjunction with smaller security systems while the 24 VDC model is used with larger commercial and industrial fire alarm systems.
System smoke detectors are typically exclusive to their manufacturer and are not typically interchangeable. Before installing any life safety device make sure that it is listed by the manufacturer as being compatible with the fire alarm system.
